Operation "Retire Early" Meeting Yesterday
So a few months ago I posted about Project X that was going to be the one that makes me a ton of money so I can disappear from society and just travel, surf and enjoy life. Yesterday was the official start of what I now call "Operation: Retire Early."
I brought on a partner for this one because of their expertise in licensing and the skate world and because they are awesome people. 80's pro skate icon, Jeff Kendall and his wife Maureen, are my new partners and we have been developing a prototype for this consumer product. We were going to produce and market it ourselves but have since decided to take the product to a large company that already has worldwide distribution and a product that is complimentary to this one and try and go BIG right away. The market we are going after is a $1 billion/year in the USA alone and the product has worldwide appeal.
So we had our first pitch meeting scheduled with Company Z over Project X and I went to LAX to pick up Jeff. We had some time so we headed over to Baker Boys Distribution to catch the first part of their "Cinco de Drinko" party as Jeff wanted to say hi to Erik Ellington and Jim Greco and see their ops. The crew was there and I am sure it got crazy after we left.
We stayed for 30 mins and hustled from the Valley to Culver City for our pitch. The pitch went really well and I think that Company Z is the best possible potential partner for us, even though they aren't the 1000 lb. gorilla in this particular space.
That being said, I am hopeful that in a year or two I will be able to unplug my computer and Blackberry and vanish with gobs of cash...you will be the first to know.
Baker Boys always dress up for the ocassion.
Jeff Kendall at Company Z waiting to pitch Project X...After we celebrated with a beer and burrito that I am still feeling the affects from today...

Celebs...Get your Paparrazi Payback

So I always see this guy in the gym that I think I recognize and he always nods his head at me and I pretty much ignore him (as I am known to do with most people) and today it hits me that it is Harvey Levin from TMZ.
Celeb friends of mine. Here is your chance to give him a little payback. Gold's Gym Venice from about 5 am-6 am during the week Harvey works out. You should stand outside and chase him with cameras and ask him stupid questions about why he like to "pump up." Of course, I just let you know when I am in there so please don't "Pap" me.
I actually Tivo TMZ (to see if any celebs are wearing my shit...which I actually wanted to send to the cast of TMZ but Harvey's gatekeeper said Harvey wasn't interested) and enjoy it. It literally hit me today who this guy was that I see bright and early. Proves my theory that good looking people don't work out in the am...hahaha kidding Harvey.

Today's COOL/NOT COOL - Wrap It
COOL - Cover that thing and stop the overgrowth of the human race. TOO many damn people on this earth.
NOT COOL - The Bareback attack. Most of you are not fit to parent so stop risking bringing another "whoops" kid into the world that will most likely be ignored by either mommy or daddy and will have issues and become a small time criminal to tax our social, judiciary and detention systems. Not too mention all those heebie jeebies you are passing around.
P.S. This is probably the only political COOL/NOT COOL I will ever post but I think I am just sick of the human race lately.

Feliz Cinco De Mayo (how you like my espanol?)

To all my Mexican brothers, sisters, vatos, eses, mamis, papis and homies...have a good Cinco de Mayo (which I think is Spanish for "excuse for white former frat dicks to get rip roaring drunk during the week and act like the assholes they once were/are")
Ole!

Today's COOL/NOT COOL - Music
COOL - Hard, chord driven ROCK AND ROLL. Bring it back...bring it home.
(Deftones know how to ROCK it out)
NOT COOL - Disaffected electro-emo-hipster-pop (undoubtedly made on a Mac laptop) named with two people's names (i.e. Sarah and Tegan) or with THE before a noun (i.e. The Libertines). Let's get creative people...I know you are tool cool and too self involved to think past your own names. Also, lose the calculated "I don't care" rockstar look...please.

Shoot Day - Jim Greco for Inked Magazine

So I headed over to Baker Boys Distribution again today (maybe I should just get a satellite office over there) to meet up with photog Jason O'Dell who was sent by Inked Magazine (thanks again Jason Buhrmester) to do a shoot with skate icon (and Piss Drunx documentary co-star) Jim Greco. I won't f up their shoot by showing you what was shot but rather just one blurry ass picture (sure that was intentional) to show you what went down. The mag should be out in a few months and believe you me it will be a good one.
Also got another pair of Supra's (black Vaider low's) from Ellington (he only had four pair in the warehouse sent for him...good thing he and I wear the same sizes. I have the weirdest feet and no shoes ever fit me....the Supra's though fit like a glove and I am stoked when I get some overflow. Thanks EE for dialing a poor slob like me in.

Clothing Designer/Friend/Stylist/Surfer/Animal Rene Acuna Comes By

Plop regular, Rene Acuna, came by today (late as always) to pull TLFI gear for some Dubai-based music video. Rene is an insane clothing designer who decided to get into styling and now he is prancing around town busy as hell as the hot stylist of the minute. He came by with a lovely costume designer Marcelle Chamlee and they hung out for a bit but of course Rene was on the phone the whole time...which is fine because Marcelle was much nicer to look at.
Off to a photo shoot with Jim Greco for Inked Magazine...will report on that upon my return.

Free plug of the day - Bliss Tea Co.

So my neighbor did an event for Surfrider Foundation last week at the Circle Bar in Santa Monica that I was too tired to attend (for those of you that don't know me I am always too tired to go out unless I am getting paid). Anyways, I was coming back from a surf this weekend and my neighbor hands over a gift bag (filled with Chanel samples, surf wax which I desperately needed and a bunch of other stuff) and two cases of canned white and green tea from The Bliss Tea Co. I am not one to shy away from free cases of drinks so I grabbed them and immediately drank a couple of the green teas and put the case of sparkling white tea in the car for the office and my myriad of guests that come by here. As I sit here and sample the first sparkling white I am compelled to say this stuff is damn good (I prefer the black tea though) and think the Plop readers should go out and try it. Anyone who supports Surfrider is a friend of mine. http://www.drinkblisstea.com
Bliss if you are listening, this is not a plea for more product...really. OK...if you want to dial in my office you can.
