Flip Feast Tour at Red Room
After yesterday I certainly needed a good stiff drink so I headed to the LBC to the Red Room for the Flip Feast Tour video party. It was a mellow little dive bar that was packed with the expected hipster skate set. It was good to throw back a few Newkie Brown Ales with Geoff Rowley, Piers, Ewan, Andrew and Jeremy from Flip. Also I am happy that a friend who I have been dealing with for YEARS through the internet for various things showed up. Above is a pic of a not-yet-quite-plastered-shitfaced Piers Baron and the lovely Lisa Kidd from Rebel Waltz.
Good times in skateland.

The King of Pop dead?

Is this rumor? Is it real? I was always a "cooler" but damn they are dropping like flies on my birthday. WTF? TMZ is reporting his death but the news is making it like he is being treated. Crazy...

The Plop is quitting it all to become a farmer

So since I got back from Seattle I have been too busy/lazy to go shopping so there is literally nothing to eat in my house. I am also too lazy to leave the house to get food so I pretty much will starve until I get time to go to the store. That being said, I could stand to lose 10 pounds or so, so this is not a terrible thing. Anyways, I was in my backyard this morning and noticed this bush we have that once in a while pours out a couple blackberries (?). Here are the fruits of my labor (well I water it once in a blue moon). This posting is so self indulgent but these damn berries were literally the best I have ever had. Organically grown with 100% Venice ghetto soil (dirt, cigarette butts, crack vials, angel dust, homeless people defication).

Oh Farrah!

This will be the most used picture on the internet today...
Oh Farrah..R.I.P. Never knew you but you certainly fueled a few thousand fantasies from a certain awkward, pudgy and zitty pre-teen. You were a warrior through all of this...hope there is a better place than earth...you will certainly be there in your red one piece.

The Plop hits it's half life and you get a prize
35 is the magic number today...it's all down hill from here. The Plop has never really celebrated it's birthday because we frankly just don't care (so anti-social).
SOOOOO...for our birthday we decided to do something nice. The first person to answer the questions below correctly gets a prize. You must be in the USA and if you have won before you can't win again. I won't tell you what the prize is. It may be good. It may suck but it won't be a dick in a box.
Take your chances...answer this:
1. What state was the Plop born in?
2. Where did the Plop grow up?
3. What is the name of the Plop's company?
Let the games begin!!!
All of this can be found somewhere on the blog. For you avid readers this should be easy.

6/25 Blumera Launch Party - Get your purse on L.A.

In honor of my half life (The Plop turns 35 on Thursday), people are throwing all sorts of fetes around town and I am just torn which to attend. Actually, I will be at The Red Room in Long Beach to celebrate the launch of the Flip Skateboard's Feast Tour video. The entire team will be there so it should be a blast.
That being said...ladies (and guys if you will) there is going to be a launch party for a new bag company designed by my girl Mehera Blum (who is also the model in the pics boys). The bags are super insane and are sure to make a splash. If you can make it over to the W and rock out a bit I would suggest getting over there and being the first to check out the collection.
For more info go to www.blumera.com

L.A. Fashion Cocktail Hour
So I got an invite to a cocktail hour for last night that I was going to blow off because I had a meeting with a friend in the office and I figured by the time I got to the event it would be done. Well my meeting flaked (you know who you are) and when I checked out the invite I realized the event wasn't in god awful Hollywood, but rather in my hood...Dogtown. The event was thrown by the lovely Jennifer Uner who runs the L.A. Fashion Awards. Jennifer is very passionate about fashion in L.A. and the night was meant to have a rep from the Mayor's office to discuss making a really special L.A. Fashion Week...the Mayor's office flaked...sooooooo...a few friends were in the house and we all enjoyed great nibblers, fruity drinks and a sick view of Venice Beach.
Sally Lohan from WGSN hiding behind the bushes chanelling her inner jungle bunny. Rooftop goodness.
Jennifer Uner giving us a little L.A. fashion pep talk. If anyone can do it, she can!
Team CA Apparel News (Jayne is a Plopculture LOCAL) and Nick Verreos enjoy the sunset and some cocktails.
The Plop had a few too many cocktails and is really feel the sting this morning. Regardless, we had a BLAST last night and are always happy to go to events in the hood. Damn I am craving some greasy eggs and hash browns.

WEC fighter Damacio Page in TLFI

Thanks to my man Mike Van Arsdale for sending a pic of Damacio Page in one of the TLFI shirts I sent to the Machi Sport team. Fighters like them some TLFI. Not sure if you noticed it all over Jorge Gurgel's walkout shirt last week but yeah we did that too.

TLFI Stain Tee on MTV's Duel Reunion
I have been supplying the Real World/Road Rules Challenges with gear since their inception. On the latest Duel Reunion show one of the cast members is wearing a black TLFI Stain tee. Also check out the new season when it comes out for TLFI to be all over the place...TLFI will also start to show up on the following other shows: Flippin Out, Z Rock, Tori and Dean, Hard Knocks, 106 and Park, The Deal, Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory and others.
Too bad this is probably my last week with the brand. They got so much press in the last 3 months. Onward Christian soldiers. I may just get back into the game full on and bring in 10 brands to the firm and really kick some ass. Read more!

Today's COOL/NOT COOL - Talking vs. Doing

COOL - Doing...anything. Do what you say, say what you do. JUST DO IT.
NOT COOL - Talking about doing. I live in the town of talk, talk, talk...me, me, me. I am so sick of hearing all the bullshit and bombast that spews out of people's mouths. Never been one to talk about doing...I just do. Fail or succeed.

Plopculture on Showtime...We are FAMOUS (in the head)
So despite walking out with client Jorge Gurgel Friday night and weaseling my way ringside, I didn't get much camera time on Showtime this weekend...HOWEVER, we were in fact on screen and the RPRT logo was prominent on Jorge's walk out shirt. Let's review the tape:
Look at me as I walk by the screen...Can you hear the offers coming in for movie and TV deals??? Me neither.
I am loving the RPRT logo on the right arm of the walk out shirt. We had about a dozen of these babies made and the crew represented big time. There is only one of these shirts left and it will be given away on SinCityMom.com this week!!!! Go get it.

Jorge Gurgel vs. Conor Heun Strikeforce Weekend Round Up
So, as you loyal Plop readers know, we were away for half the week last week for our client, Jorge Gurgel's debut in Strikeforce. As always, I am going to do a picture round up of most of the weekend. I pretty much only took pics leading up to the fight even though we were in the Seattle area a day and a half after the fight as well (staying at Rich Franklin's pad and hanging with Jorge's crew at a house party). I was too tired to take pics and frankly don't want to share beyond the fight...so here goes:
We stayed in a pretty nice Marriott hotel by the Seattle area. The most exciting thing in the neighborhood was a 7-11. Literally nothing going on for miles. So we pretty much stayed in the hotel for two days straight leading up the fight. Needless to say I was going stir crazy but I did get in some swimming and sauna time. Jorge didn't fight at his normal 155 for this fight since the league didn't fly the fighters in early enough to cut weight so it was smoothe sailing to cut to the 160 catch weight he and Conor agreed on.
After flying and connecting for 12 hours Jorge finally got into Seattle (what there were no direct flights from Cincy?????) at 11 p.m. Immediately the next morning he was rushed to do his media shots and interviews for Showtime. Here is the "professionally good looking" (his words) Jorge, on the monitor during his Showtime interviews.
After the on camera interview, Jorge sat down with the broadcasting team to do another interview so they could have some fodder to talk about during his fight. Here is color commentator and legendary Pat Miletich and Jorge mugging for the camera.
After all the interviews and pictures, Jorge went to cut weight. He was walking at 162 when he got in so dropping 2 pounds was simple. He actually weighed in at 157.5. Here, he and Conor square off for the cameras.
Team Gurgel worked their asses off and it showed. From left to right here is Jorge's corner - Taylor (has been training with Jorge since he was 12 and has a fight in August), Dorion Price (kickboxing coach and TUF Season 6 fighter) and Mark Dellagrotte (Jorge's coach/Kru and legendary Muay Thai boxing trainer). This team was magic and really kept Jorge focused and calm. Their strategy for this bout worked and Jorge fought his best fight ever under their guidance.
Jorge and Conor get ready to BRAWL. This was definitely a candidate for Fight of the Year (just ask Yahoo Sports). 3 rounds of all out stand up bashing from Jorge and Conor. Jorge pretty much controlled the tempo of the fight from the get go. Though he promised to use his Jiu Jitsu more, the strategy on someone like Conor was to keep it standing and to use the kickboxing Jorge had been focusing on. Conor was an AMAZING opponent and took some blows and kicks that would have laid out a freight train and he kept coming back for more. Jorge fought a hard fight but deserved the unanimous decision win. Team Gurgel has huge respect for Conor and Jorge thought he was a class act and amazing fighter.
After the fight, Jorge and Conor met up to compare scars. Jorge had to be sent to the hospital for lip and eye stitches. Conor had a hemotoma on his thigh from sustaining countless Gurgel kicks that was huge. In general though both were pretty healthy but I am sure will be sore for another week or so. All Jorge wants to do is get back in the gym and train and we have to rein him in to rest for a week. Since he had injuries that sent him to get stitches he has a 60 day suspension. Expect his next bout to be in September or October. * Notice Mrs. Cyborg in the background. Her husband also had to go to the hospital. Imagine going into a podunk emergency room and seeing a beat up Jorge and Cyborg sitting there in the waiting room.
After the fight, Jorge handed me his trunks and gloves signed since this is our first win together. I was pretty honored he gave them to me as opposed to someone like Kru Dellagrotte or Dorion Price. They deserved it more. Regardless, they are now on the office wall of fame.
Finally a last shout out to Jorge's main sponsors: Full Tilt Poker, Premier Fighter and SinCityMom.com!!!!
